For starters, am still using DOORS 7.1, but in any case, I thought this was something that would have been talked to death here... I have a few new attributes that have been added to a template module and need to roll out across all the modules in the project using that template. I've seen tools for copying view etc. but simply can't find anything that does the same for attributes. Effectively I'm trying to save myself a lot of manual labour by opening every individual module within the project and importing the new attributes (and associated types) from the template module, e.g. to cycle through every formal module in the project importing new attribute "Actual Result" of type "Standard Result" with enumerations "Pass, fail, untested..."
Or from another perspective... the opposite of the import attribute dialog where I could essentially "export" selected attributes to selected modules.
Even if it simply told me which ones it couldn't do because of rogue conflicting attribute names or because someone had the module open at the time that would be fine as there would only likely be a few and those could be done those manually when the conflict has been resolved.

Re: DXL to automate import attributes to all modules in a project llandale - Tue Jan 25 10:13:07 EST 2011
Here's one I found and modified.
Seems to me has has some 'issues' vis-a-vis if the attribute Def or especially the Attr Type already exists.
Seems to me you would want to move the 'source' module, the one with the new attributes, to the Project Root folder and run the script from there, as this will let the script provide a list of all modules under the Project. if the source module is under a folder, you cannot get modules in other folders. When done, copy the source module back to where you want it.

Here's another variant, which started of the same as Louie's but followed a different migration path. This works for me in DOORS 8.2, but YMMV...
Copy Attrs Plus
This script allows the user to:
-
copy the attributes from the current to multiple others
-
update an Attribute/Type Definition if the attribute already exists
USAGE: Run from the source module, it asks the user to select the attribute(s) to copy and the destination module(s).
NOTES:
-
This script assumes that the user has complete access rights to the attribute definitions and will cause a run-time error if this is not the case.
-
This tool copies attribute definitions from the current module to other selected modules.
-
If a named attribute already exists, and is of the same type, then the attribute definition is updated.
-
Use this tool to manage the consistency of attribute definitions across the database.
-
Use of this tool to modify enumeration values(strings) may result in loss of data.

Thank you both, the second one is even more than what I was initally thinking about and is a really useful tool but even looking at the code for the first suggestion has given me a couple of good ideas for solving other problems so both brilliantly helpful!
